A Simple Reflective Practice for Performance and mental rehearsal

Simple practice for performance and mental rehearsal: practical questions, art-based reflection, and Enzology meditation and hypnosis session options.

Mental rehearsal gives you a structured way to imagine a sequence of actions. It complements real preparation and practice; it cannot guarantee athletic, artistic, academic, or professional results.

Try a short, manageable experiment

Choose a quiet moment and a comfortable setting. This is an optional reflection exercise, not a test or a substitute for individualized care. Keep it brief enough to repeat, and stop if the experience feels uncomfortable. There is no requirement to produce a particular feeling.

Choose a familiar skill and picture its first few actions in order. Keep the scene realistic, including how you would recover from a small interruption.

Before and after the exercise

Before beginning, notice where you are and whether you have enough privacy. Set a small intention and give yourself permission to finish early. Afterwards, return to the room and write one sentence about what you observed, without deciding that the practice must have changed something.

After real practice, compare what you imagined with what occurred and adjust the next rehearsal.

If attention wanders

Wandering attention is something to notice. You can return to the exercise, shorten it, or leave it for another day. Avoid turning a brief experiment into another obligation. A guided session can help you discuss what made the practice comfortable or difficult.
